Humans and many other species perceive depth consistent with the disparities present in the stimuli. In a classic, correlated random dot stereogram (CRDS), the positions of some of these dots will be shifted between the two eyes to create non-zero disparities ( Fig 3a), which are either ‘crossed’ (consistent with near depth) or ‘uncrossed’ (consistent with far depth). These consist of a stereo-pair of patterns of randomly positioned dots and allow us to isolate binocular cues to depth in a laboratory setting. Our understanding of how populations of neurons modelled in this way give rise to the perception of depth has been greatly enhanced by the use of random dot stereograms (RDS). This forms the input to the second order filters (blue pathway) where the pairs of monocular filters are summed, squared and combined to calculate the second-order binocular energy response. The first-order responses are squared and summed, to produce monocular energy responses for each eye. Outline of a second order binocular energy model (green and blue pathway): Odd and even monocular energy responses are calculated separately for each eye (green pathway). The squared outputs are summed across the two halves of the quadrature pair. Responses are summed across the two eyes for corresponding filters, then squared. Outline of a first order binocular energy model (orange pathway): Odd and even symmetric monocular receptive fields (white areas represent excitatory regions of the receptive fields and dark areas inhibitory regions) are combined to compute the first order binocular energy response. This broad distribution of binocular processing reflects the importance of three-dimensional information for both action and perception, and demonstrates the complexity of extracting depth from binocular signals.įig 2. At higher levels of visual processing, binocular responses are found in both the dorsal and ventral streams. ĭisparity-tuned neurons in the primary visual cortex form the early stages of a broadly distributed network of binocular processing. Point 1 will appear closer and 3 further away. This uncrossed disparity arises as this point is further away than the fixation point. Conversely, there is a rightward shift of point 3 from the left to the right eye’s image. This crossed disparity arises as this point in the image is closer than the fixation point. For point 1, there is a small shift leftwards in the right eye’s image in comparison to point 1 in the left eye’s image. The point of fixation falls on the same retinal location and has zero disparity. Each eye, the left (top) and right (bottom), receives a different image depending on fixation (point 2). If the midline position of the imaging is not good, you can try to choose the second Create-Mode.Fig 1. I’ve never seen wind like that in the 10 years I’ve been here.” The wind was so unpredictable that at one point in the third quarter, the teams combined to run on 29 straight plays (18 by San Francisco and 11 by Denver). Said Bill Walsh, “It looked like a beautiful day, and then all hell broke loose. Of note: Eagles punter John Teltschik set an NFL record (since broken) by punting 15 times in the game. After a 36-yard Simms to Bavaro pass, Allegre would hit from 28 for the win. Seth Joyner blocked a 50-yard Raul Allegre FG, but the Eagles would go 3-and-out yet again. Possession by possession, the Giants gained field position, with a 59-yard Sean Landeta punt pinning the Eagles at their own 4, followed by an Eagles punt returned by Phil McConkey to the Eagles’ 33. What followed: The Eagles were completely ineffective in overtime, running 18 plays for a total of negative 3 yards. What had happened: The Eagles came back from a 20-6 deficit with two long TD passes (36 and 40) in the last 3:32. 7 of 8 scores during regulation were scored by the team with the wind, with the exception coming 2 plays into the 4th quarter. Dallas would turn the ball over three plays later, Byron Hunt intercepting Danny White and returning it to the Dallas 24. After a 23-yard bootleg by Scott Brunner, the Giants were in good position to win, but Danelo’s 33-yard FG hit the right upright. Two plays later, Lawrence Taylor recovered a botched pitch to Tony Dorsett, giving the Giants the ball at the Dallas 40. ![]() What followed: The Giants went nowhere on their first drive, punting to the Dallas 40. Giants kicker Joe Danelo had missed from 21 and 27 against the wind in regulation, after not missing from inside 36 all season (12 of 12). Why: 15 mph wind with gusts to 23, bitter cold. In the second overtime, with the Texans now having the wind at their back, Tommy Brooker made a 25-yard FG, giving the Texans the 1962 AFL Championship. What followed: The Dallas defense stopped the Oilers three times, forcing a punt and picking off George Blanda twice. ![]() The toss: After winning the toss, Abner Haynes, Dallas captain, told referee Harold Bourne that “We’ll kick to the clock.” Unfortunately for the Texans, he could not choose both options, and by starting with “We’ll kick,” Haynes committed the Texans to kicking off. If you do find a wireless model with backlighting, be prepared to change its batteries or recharge it frequently. However, new innovations such as hand-proximity sensors boost battery life compared to older Bluetooth products, whose always-on link drained batteries quickly.Īmong the few major drawbacks of mainstream wireless keyboards is that few of them feature key backlighting, which hampers one of their most useful roles: controlling a home theater PC in a dim living room. In regular use, a Bluetooth connection gives you roughly 30 feet of wireless range, though we find that Bluetooth wireless keyboards tend to have briefer battery life than USB dongle devices. (Logitech, for example, refers to this setup as Logitech Unifying technology.)īluetooth connections make sense in certain situations they don't monopolize a USB port, and newer versions of Bluetooth are stable, easy to manage, and offer compatibility with additional mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Some manufacturers' USB dongles can control more than one device, meaning you can use a single adapter (and USB port) for both a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, invariably from the same vendor. Not only is the dongle unobtrusive, but we find that the 2.4GHz signal tends to offer more stable connectivity than Bluetooth. The dongle itself is usually a tiny rectangle-small enough to plug in and forget about. Most wireless keyboards that use USB dongles transmit over the same 2.4GHz wireless frequency used for cordless phones and Wi-Fi routers. But if you want to reduce the number of cables on your desk and gain the flexibility to use your keyboard at a distance-whether it be in your lap at your desk or across the room-wireless is the way to go. Wireless models transmit data to your PC through one of two primary means: an RF connection to a small dongle plugged into one of your PC's USB ports or a Bluetooth connection with no dongles required. If you want more freedom and less cable clutter on your desk, however, it's hard to beat a wireless keyboard. This isn't usually a problem, since you'll likely be connecting one of these keyboards to a large gaming desktop with many available USB ports. Some premium gaming models with lots of customizable buttons and lights come with two USB cables, one for power delivery (and/or to feed an extra USB port or ports on the keyboard itself) and one for your data connection. (More on that in a minute.) Some cheaper gaming models may lack software and handle key backlighting and macros/shortcuts wholly through hardware.īesides transferring your keystrokes to the computer, a USB connection also powers the keyboard, so there are no batteries to worry about. Gaming keyboards, by contrast, will typically work as soon as you plug them in, but come with their own software that lets you adjust features such as onboard RGB lighting and the assignment of macro keys. Non-gaming keyboards are usually plug-and-play devices, with no additional software to install, so connecting the cable is all the setup you'll need. The simplest way to connect a keyboard to your PC is to plug its cable into a USB port. Do I Need a Wired Keyboard, or a Wireless One? Modern models come in a bunch of subtypes, from boards optimized for typing efficiency to sculpted ergonomic designs that cradle your hands and relieve stress on the joints. Or maybe your aching hands are shouting Hey, cut me some slack here! Whatever the reason, anyone can benefit from a better keyboard.īefore you go shopping, however, it pays to know what makes a keyboard a good fit. Perhaps your gaming ambitions have outstripped the mushy, mediocre typer that came with your PC. ![]() Maybe your trusty old keyboard has typed its last letter or trapped its last bagel crumb. In our example, there is a file named DVWA-master.zip, 10752 bytes long. root omer: ~ / Downloads # shred -vuf -iteration=30 DVWA-master.zip Let’s see how the shred command deletes a file. The reason why this process is not used normally An assumption is made that if you write too much data to the disc, the life of the disc will be shortened. Shreds the file, shuffles and overwrites 10-20-30 or more new random data, making it non-recyclable. According to the rules you will write to the command parameters, it writes random data bits to the addresses where the file is located. The shred command does the deletion by going to the addresses on the disk itself. ![]() To do this, there is the shred command that comes preinstalled with Linux. Whenever new information is searched for to be written to disk, it is overwritten. In fact, the data you think you deleted is still on your disk. Only your operating system’s location catalogue, those addresses are empty information is encoded. Whichever of the above-mentioned methods you use, your files are not physically deleted from the disk space where they were written. Note: Deletion is irreversible in the command line. You can also delete from the command line with the rm command.Depending on your Operating System, there may also be a method to delete ( Shift + Delete) the file without sending it to the Trash.Right-click on the file in the desktop environment and select one of the DELETE-Send to Trash options. If you are using a visual interface in the control system, you will definitely know the words Recycle Bin, Trash can.You can remove a directory with the rmdir command. You can’t just rm a directory by default, you’ll need to add the -r flag (recursive) to remove all the files and any subdirectories it may have. f or force option tells rm to remove all files, whether they are write protected or not, without prompting the user (as long as you have the appropriate permissions).Īdding the -i flag like many of the other commands, will give you a prompt on whether you want to actually remove the files or directories. Now if you don’t care about any of that, you can absolutely remove a bunch of files. If a directory is write-protected it will also not be easily removed. Write-protected files will prompt you for confirmation before deleting them. ![]() Once they are gone, they are gone for good, so be careful.įortunately there are some safety measures put into place, so the average joe can’t just remove a bunch of important files. Take caution when using rm, there is no magical trash can that you can fish out removed files. The rm (remove) command is used to delete files and directories. ![]() ![]() To remove files you can use the rm command. Now I think we have too many files, let’s remove some files. In creating this list, we took into consideration what parents thought was the most important factors for choosing a kid-friendly music festival: children’s activities, easy access to food and water, space and size of the music festival, and other family-friendly conveniences. Here are the top recommended children friendly music festivals for 2018!Īfter talking to lots of parents who have personally experienced taking their child (or children) to music festivals around the country, we were able to create a list of the most recommended kid-friendly music festivals in the United States. This has not happened to us….yet.” (Tim B) This will help if you ever need to find your kid if they are lost. “Take a picture of your kids upon arrival, wearing the clothes they plan to wear for the event. Your kids should get familiar with the lay of the land, and they’ll need to know how to find their way back to their campsite.įinally, make sure your children know how to find medical tents and security so they know where to go in case of an emergency. Take a walk around the music festival grounds with your child. (If you don’t have a wristband, don’t be afraid to write on your child’s arm or hand using a permanent marker. Many music festivals provide white wristbands to children so that parents can write down their contact information in case their children get lost. Have a “security plan” in place upon arrival.Īs soon as you arrive at the music festival, create a game plan with your children so that they (and you) feel secure and safe throughout the weekend. Make sure you make a game plan and take turns with the other parents so that you can all get the most out of your music festival experience. shares with us, “Going with a group of parents is great because you can trade times a bit to allow you more adult time, but it’s not cool to just dump your parental responsibilities on someone else either.” The saying “it takes a village” certainly can ring true when you take your children to a music festival. Camp with another family with kids the same age. I have done a festival photo scavenger hunt with Jaden each time – he has to take pictures of things and earns a prize.”ģ. Look for things to do at the music festival, like slip ’n slides or scavenger hunts. Jon R’s advice: “Plan on off-site activities, such as a nearby waterpark or kayak trip. Chances are that your child is going to want to be entertained throughout the day with things other than music. Many music festivals strive to create children-specific activities and family-friendly amenities. Choose a music festival that takes families and children into consideration. Have age-appropriate discussions with your child about this prior to the festival.” 2. Wise advice from Jennifer M: “Anticipate the possibility of your child hearing foul language, seeing partial nudity, seeing or smelling pot or cigarette smoke.
